We’ve already picked a reading challenge for the month! How about Black Hawks Rising? The book is written by Ugandan author Opiyo Oloya, who is based in Canada. But for this challenge, he will meet you in Kampala, in person.

Aristoc Bookstore at Garden City will host him at a book signing event on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 11a.m.

#UgandaReading has appointed a team of eight board members to help the organization achieve its vision of building a strong reading culture across Africa.

The Inauguration Ceremony of this Board of Directors means they will now actively take part in advising members, and guiding the management toward influencing people to pick up books.

Each member presents their own uniqueness and brings tremendous value to the table on which ideas, plans and policies will be made to help achieve the objective of promoting reading.

#UgandaReading Masindi Hotel library opening

In our main project of opening community libraries in partnerships with hotels and help of the National Library of Uganda, we are taking to Masindi Hotel on 14 April.
Davis Ampumuza, is the author we are working with. We`ll be reading his book “A Mysterious Oil Ditch” as the challenge of the month.

#UgandaReading Challenging Nakawa Market Vendors

For the month of March, 2017, we made wakeup call on vendors Nakawa Market to read. This way, we also wanted to highlight the existence of the Kampala Capital City Authority library and encourage people in Kampala to use it.
We had the vendors read for ten minutes, starting 4p.m on Friday 17, March 2017. The exercise meant putting everything down and just reading.
And the month`s author is Zainab Nantume, whose “Problem Injection” (Empiso Yebizibu) is the challenge.

#UgandaReading Promoting Recovery at Butabika Hospital

As part of on-the-ground events, #UgandaReading expanded its influence, extending its reach to Butabika Hospital, the country`s only mental referral hospital.
The event that happened on 21 January, 2017 ran under the theme; “Promoting Recovery Through Reading”, which suited perfectly with #UgandaReading’s book of the month, “The Breakthrough” by Nicholas Aruho.

#UgandaReading in Prisons

For the month of December 2016, we read The Ugandan Paradox by Joachim Buwembo, and we took it as the introduction of #UgandaReading in Uganda Prisons, specifically, Luzira Complex. We donated 50 copies of this book to Upper/Maximum Security Prison, Murchison Bay and Women`s Prison to facilitate the reading, in ways that would help in the rehabilitation process of inmates.
The reading is usually on various types of books, including; novels, inspiration, religious to historical books. And we promote Ugandan literature and writers.
